2019–2020 APLA Lecture Series

Each year, the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture invites speakers to participate in the APLA Lecture Series, where he or she will choose a topic and deliver a lecture to faculty, staff, students, and any others who wish to attend.

Each year’s lecture series requires its own visual identity, which is carried throughout a poster, postcard, tabloid flyers, monitor slides, and social posts. Usually a theme is chosen, and the poster and all subsequent deliverables are a visual representation of that theme, but since no theme was given to the 2019–2020 series, I chose to derive the theme from the title.

I paired sans serif type with a glitch pattern and a muted color palette. The pattern, an abstraction of “APLA LECTURE SERIES,” is used at a large scale on the front of the poster and a much smaller scale on the back so that both sides are easily differentiable.

The posters are folded and mailed without an envelope, and the back of the poster was meticulously designed so that the top left quadrant contained all information needed for mailing. Half of the quadrant includes the title lockup and AU logo while the other half serves as a mailing label.

The poster, postcard, and monitor slides were designed to showcase the full year’s schedule, while the tabloid flyers were created for each individual lecture. Social posts showing the full schedule were created to announce the start of the series, and individual posts were created and distributed leading up to the lecture.
